generating a slightly more interesting world
the new generated game world, about 20 miles long
Uploaded another little prototype build. This time there's an actual goal!
The aim is to drive a set distance to the north. The bar at the top of the screen shows your progress, and the floating orb serves as a compass. It takes about 20-30 minutes and is a little boring but at least there's stuff to find and a little bit of a traversal challenge now.
Over the past few days I've been working on setting up a world generation tool (I'm using the very promising MapMagic 2), which this prototype aims to test. Next up i'll be trying to get state saving on objects (so, for example, you could destroy a building and drive away and if you return it would still be destroyed etc), and ultimately try and get dynamic objects like enemies in.
If you do wanna try this out, here are the controls:
- wasd - drive
- c - lock throttle
- drag mouse - rotate camera
- click mouse - reset camera
- r - reset vehicle if flipped
- backspace - debug view
- 1 - change lighting
- esc - quit
the day/night cycle, if you can call it that, is super jarring, sorry! it just abruptly cuts from day to night every minute or so. just trying out some ~vibes~ yknow
